Drama and Theatre  |  Spring 2 - 23
In the Spring 2 issue of Drama & Theatre Magazine, we’re celebrating the magic of musical theatre – and there are few movie musicals that have had such a profound global impact in recent years as Frozen. Fortunately for young performers, there’s a new specially adapted production for schools and youth theatres, which we explore in this issue. There’s a dance strand also running through our Spring 2 issue, as we highlight the brilliant apprenticeship scheme at Matthew Bourne’s company New Adventures, which has done away with the usual audition system and found new ways to seek out talent from underrepresented backgrounds.
Also in this issue, we look at the growing trend of stage adaptations of novels – and why this new programming trend might open up opportunities for interdisciplinary learning in schools. Plus, screenwriters Maddie Rice and Tom Machell give us their top practical tips for writing for live performance, and we go behind the scenes at Emma Rice’s trailblazing theatre company Wise Children to look into its bespoke mentoring scheme.
