Dolls House World  |  Issue 354
People sharing their stories about what miniatures means to them is always interesting, and often humbling. And, amongst the make-its and the houses, we have several illuminating reflections this month.
Mari Lakso was suffering from depression when she glimpsed her old childhood doll’s house on a top shelf. The house had given her such pleasure when she was younger, working on it with her mum, and suddenly she knew what she had to do - dust it off and bring it back to life.
Mari tells us: “It was such fun and I just loved it. I felt an enthusiasm I hadn’t felt in years and I found the child in me again. This house kind of gave me a reason to live again.”
We visit Aga Fattori’s beautiful summer beach house this issue, but the calm, tranquil interior is a far cry from her traumatic journey into the hobby. She was thrown from a horse and broke her arm badly a few years ago and had to work hard to regain mobility in her hand after surgery. Aga was playing with some random bits of wood, fabric and lace when a tiny bed emerged along with a new all-consuming passion.
She told us: “I truly believe that it is never too late to pursue a new passion and learn a new skill. By doing so we tend to learn a lot about ourselves. By doing what we love best, we fill our lives with positive energy that gives us the power to overcome the mundane. Your only limitations are your creativity and imagination.”
Lots to read, lots to do inside this issue, and much to think about as well.
