We love the sense of calm in the beautiful kitchen of a Georgian
home designed by Roundhouse, which we feature on the cover
this issue. It’s a very sophisticated scheme for a couple that loves
to cook and wanted a professional chef’s-style kitchen with an
industrial feel. Combining the practicality of steel worktops and units
with the softness of walnut cabinetry and wooden flooring means the
design also feels satisfyingly relaxed and luxurious.
And pro-style kitchens are a bit of a theme this month as we also
feature five projects with tips from some of the country’s leading chefs
and bakers. So we get a peek at Yotam Ottolenghi’s family kitchen, for
example, and the work kitchen of Ella Mills of Deliciously Ella fame.
We also visit a beautiful cookery school in Notting Hill, which was
designed by John Lewis of Hungerford, we recently had a bash at homemade pasta.

in your kitchen design, we think, might just change your life. I spoke to
seven different designers about why placing storage up on high makes
a great deal of sense. It’s an excellent use of wasted space and adding a
ladder to your kitchen means all those bits and pieces – which would
otherwise be stored inaccessibly – can be used every day.
