Bass Player UK  |  104 May 2014
As the only UK magazine devoted to bass, we’re in the fortunate position here at BGM’s secret command bunker to have access to the great and the good of the bass guitar world – but even by our standards, this month’s issue has some mighty personalities tucked between its pages. How about Nicky Wire for starters? Always the most confrontational of the Manic Street Preachers, ready with a soundbite or a mean bass part at a moment’s notice, the man that literally no-one calls Nick Jones is one of Britain’s most thought-provoking bass players. In our cover interview, the great man sounds off about the death of rock and the beauty of the bass: head to it without a moment’s delay.
We’re also delighted to present our full and frank meeting with the equally great Tina Weymouth, sometime of Talking Heads and now of Tom Tom Club. With a career heading back as far as the 70s that never strayed very far from the cutting edge of cool, Tina is a true icon for all of us. Then there’s Les Claypool, perhaps the most advanced bassist of his generation, plus Stick inventor Emmett Chapman (interviewed by none other than Nick Beggs, himself a Stick player of mammoth skill) and our first-hand report of the recent Frankfurt Musikmesse. All of bass life is here, and together with gear reviews for all budgets and tuition columns for all abilities, you have no excuse not to dive straight in. See you in June!
