Dancing Times  |  March 2020
There is so much in this issue of Dancing Times, it’s difficult for me to know where to begin. First, we introduce you to Layton Williams, star of the UK tour of the hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, who is also acting as this year’s MOVE IT ambassador. He discusses how he got started in dance with Nicola Rayner, and why he feels a particular affinity to the role he is currently portraying. Layton first came to prominence in the West End playing Billy Elliot, and yet another former Billy is Harrison Dowzell, our Dancer of the Month, who, although only 19 years old, is already making his mark with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.
We also hear from choreographer Kenneth Tindall about Geisha, his new full-length work for Northern Ballet, and discover what Kit Holder, first soloist with Birmingham Royal Ballet, learned when he attended the 2020 instalment of DanceEast’s Rural Retreat. Martin Cutler reports from the latest UK Open competition in Bournemouth, pianist Jason Ridgway talks about his 20-year collaboration with choreographer Richard Alston, and we also learn about the Royal Academy of Dance’s “Fonteyn” competition from artistic director Gerard Charles. That’s just the start of it – you’ll soon discover there’s so much more to read in this month’s issue.
