Sam Curran was once again forced to bail England out after yet another spectacular collapse left Joe Root’s team fighting to save this pivotal fourth Test against India at the Ageas Bowl. Curran was dropped for last week’s defeat at Trent Bridge that saw England’s series lead cut to 2-1 with two Tests to play. But the twenty year-old’s fighting half-century, brought up with a six off Ravichandran Ashwin, was the one saving grace of a pitiful batting display that saw the top three of Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings and Root all fail yet again
as England were dismissed for 246, with Curran smashing a wonderful 78.
