Snowbirds & RV Travelers  |  Oct 2020
As another issue of Snowbirds and RV Travelers rolls off the press, we are happy to hear - and actually see – the highways and campgrounds being enjoyed by RVers in rigs of all sizes this summer and fall. After all, it’s a pastime that can provide endless delight with family and friends anytime, and you don’t have to go far to do it.
Taking a cue from our article in this month’s issue about Holiday Trails RV Resorts and its new winter operations for snowbirds (see pages 14-16), there are still viable options – regardless of where you reside - to get out and enjoy RVing once the snow starts to fly. While camping in the winter is nothing new to adventurous RVers (and there’s still a good month left to take in the prime fall colours via RV) there is no better time than now to start planning for winter destinations.
Why not curl up with your smart device and search for what type of specific gear you need, proper RV preparation, type of winter tires to use (see pages 38-40), and most importantly, where to go? Being in Canada, it’s likely you won’t have to go far from your front door.
Select provincial parks (or even national parks
depending on where you’re located) are open all year. In Ontario alone, 31 are accessible and the more popular locations offer equipment rentals, cabins, and extensive trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. If you prefer snowmobiling, it’s not uncommon to see travel trailers or SURVS setup as a day camp at the heads of more popular trail systems. Remember though, it’s always best to check provincial parks in your region before departure to see what’s available (and what isn’t). Regardless of where you travel, always determine the winter road conditions, the forecast, or even road closures due to extreme weather.
Winter activities with an RV provide all sorts of benefits. Most of all, it offers endless enjoyment on weekends or when time allows to create new experiences with friends and family.
