One sure sign that you’re getting
on a bit is when people start telling you: “You’re always living in the past!” – and it’s even more worrying when you realise that many of those saying it are exactly the same age as yourself!
While living in the past can have its comforts, it can be so easy to nd yourself talking enthusiastically about, say, motorcycling in the
1950s or 60s only to be told: “Before my time, mate!” from a completely blank face.
However the same thing applies the other way round as well. Some of us can become so obsessed by the past that we fail to recognise the huge achievements of later generations, and might just as well be saying: “After my time, mate!”
