American Miniaturist  |  Issue 223
T his month I want to take time to encourage all makers to share what they are working on – with us. It is really important to show others your work because everyone inspires someone, no matter what level maker you are. My dream is to fill Mini Mail with projects from our readers, so send them over, please!
Recently, I was ripping out old pages from a half-filled journal to use it for a new project and discovered plans for my very first scratch build, The Mediterranean Villa! (Which now belongs to my heart sister, Stephanie Watt, pictured above.) It took me a minute to figure out what garden the sketch was for. Then I saw the peacock patio and it all came flooding back. I remember how thrilling it was to make the cover of DHM, back when I was a contributor!
I have been thinking lately about my journey as a miniature artist. After thirty years there are still new things to learn, new materials to experiment with and more ideas for things to make than I will ever have time for. Did I ever share that 21 years ago my ex-husband told me dollhouses were a waste of my time? I still remember every detail of that moment. The marriage only lasted a year and a half and I have been a devoted miniaturist for 30 years! Always follow your passion and keep those that support you and your passions close. Those are the people that truly know how to love and the ones that most definitely love you.
