The Searcher  |  October 2022
What’s new in this issue?
Our exclusive cover story this month is a gorgeous Bronze Age lock ring, designated as a find of regional importance and found by Philip Vaughan in Yorkshire. Philip’s superb photography really captures the gold’s captivating beauty and really does the find justice. The winners of the (now European) Nations’ Greatest Finds Competition are announced by Professor Michael Lewis – a huge congratulations to the winners and runners-up! The Bickmarsh Hoard is a fantastic Saxon coin hoard discovered on a Go Detecting Midlands dig. Phil Frag Hill reports on how the day unfolded and provides details about what is known about the Saxon and Viking coins to date. Exclusively we also have a gold sovereign coin hoard which are in mint condition uncovered by Pete Cresswell and Andy Boughton. And the last highlight is a lovely Roman figurine found by Pat Buckley. Pat’s detecting partner Andy Carter recounts the discovery in a very humorous way which is well worth a read!
