Living in Shropshire in the heart of the UK I don’t get to the coast as often as I would like. But when I do I make the most of it. The paintings made here often find homes with people in the Midlands I think for the reason that they don’t see the sea that often either so having a coastal painting on the wall is like a window to their favourite place.
One of my special places to paint is the Isles of Scilly – 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall and made up of over 150 islands, five of which are inhabited. It’s a huge source of inspiration and I can’t help but fill sketchbooks with splashes of turquoise, deep blues and aquas as a reminder to use when I’m back in the studio.
