“It was a Jaguar D-Type on steroids. It was The Rolling Stones in surround-sound after eight gallons of LSD.” That’s how a ride in an English Electric Lightning interceptor is described by journalist and aviation enthusiast Jeffrey Watson, who had the privilege of a passenger flight with No 5 Sqn RAF in 1967.
