VOLUNTEERS at the Dean Forest Railway (DFR) have kicked off the year by preparing the ground for a new carriage shed as part of the Lydney Junction Yard development project.
Members of the DFR Society have cleared vegetation, surplus materials and scrap to make way for the construction of new storage and workshop facilities, which will also assist with the delivery of educational programs and community events. The clearance efforts are a precursor to site surveys.
Securing grant funding is a pivotal aspect of the project, which cannot be progressed without accurate, detailed surveys and costings – all of which needs to be complete before the railway engages with fundraising experts in the coming months to assist with applications.
