"The New Year is a time to look ahead, make plans and resolutions. If you didn’t make a start on the Swirling Stars quilt which we started in the December issue, it’s not too late to join in our sewalong and make the quilt with us over the next few issues. Everyone loves a rainbow and the Rainbow Quilt combines quick piecing, a little appliqué as well as the quilt-as-you-go method. The Teabag Quilt features strip piecing; a simple design that would work in different styles of fabrics. Strip piecing is used to make the kaleidoscope blocks in the Dew and Moss Quilt while the Dresden Blue Quilt is a quilt design that combines two traditional blocks. We love the House Storage Boxes; why not make a little street of them to store your small fabric scraps in, colour-coordinated of course! Stuart’s Stashbusting block this month will certainly help bust those little scraps we all keep, just in case!
As the New Year is a time of renewal, Kath Garner looks at ways of making use of our WIPs, UFOs and Orphan Blocks. Having shown us the ‘Acton Top’ last month, Sheilah Daughtree went back on one of their sewing bee days to see more of the textiles at Gunnersbury Park & Museum in Treasured Threads. We find out more about The Banners of St. Giles as well as how to encourage children to start sewing in Quilting with Kids. Jennifer Johnson tells us about her First and Last quilts and we meet Icknield Quilters in Introducing."
