Golf Course Architecture  |  October 2017
An adequate fairway width is essential if holes are to present a strategic challenge, but the more maintained grass a hole has, the more it costs to keep in good shape. In the lead feature of the October 2017 issue of Golf Course Architecture, Adam Lawrence asks architects what the best way to strike the perfect balance is.
The cover features the impressive new golf course on the outskirts of Las Vegas – The Summit. Designed by Tom Fazio, we speak to the architect about the layout and pick out some of the highlights. Also in the tee box section, we talk to Gil Hanse about Streamsong Black, take a look at the recently-restored Pandy Bunker at Ganton Golf Club, and profile the latest design from Lester George, who has been hired to draw up plans for a new course in Virginia.
There’s plenty more, including Neil Crafter’s profile of Australian architect Alex Russell, a visit to Lofoten Links in Norway to take a look at the expanded course, and some of the differences when it comes to designing courses in the Middle East and northern and central Europe, as explained by Peter Harradine.
