Classic Van & Pick-up Magazine Vol. 14 No.12 MINOR CAMPER Edição anterior

BY the time you read this, about a month will
have elapsed since the big show was staged
at Gaydon, such are the way deadlines and
publication dates work in the world of magazines.
You’ve now had four weeks to reflect on the event. So,
what do you reckon, then, eh? I figure it as one of the
best shows I’ve ever been to, maybe the best.
To say the day started on the wet side is a bit of an
understatement. Put it this way, I thought I saw a rabbit cross the
show area and then realised it was a salmon. But the rain stopped
and then, oh boy, it turned out to be a cracking time.
It was a bit of a gamble for Gaydon’s show organizer, Tom
Caren. He has found great success with the annual Classic and
Vintage Commercial Show, but that is mainly for the big boys
(trucks) and the light commercials have always been in the very
small minority. But the gamble paid off, to the extent that the
Classic Van and Pick-up Show will be repeated next year.
The title of the event has given some visitors the idea that I had
something to do with it. Well, I’d love to take the credit, but the
work was done by Tom and his team and all I did was give a few
bits of advice, plus publicity. Nevertheless, I’ve been in on it from
the start, albeit it a very minor way, and felt genuinely excited
before the show and pretty damn good during it.
I enjoyed meeting you dudes, proving that a) I do exist and b)
it is possible for an editor to be as wide as he is high. I also want
to publicly thank everybody – and I mean everybody – for their
enthusiasm in supporting this event. Check out the report starting
on page 22.
Keep it classic and all that malarkey, chin-chin,
Ted Connolly, (the rather wide) Editor
