FROM THE LOFT
EVERYONE has their favourite decade,
well, most people, anyhow. Mine is
(are?) the sixties. At this juncture, I
wish to point out that I have never learnt
what the expression “child of the sixties” is
supposed to mean. Does it indicate a child
that was born in the sixties or grew up in
the sixties? There is quite a big difference.
Anyhow, I was born a little (ahem) way
before that and the mug shot at the top
of this page is about a century, 2,000 grey
hairs and a fair collection of wrinkles out of
date. I grew up in that legendary decade and
remember it as a time of immense choice
– music, fashion, cars, bikes etc – and the
best summing-up of that era I have ever
heard described it as the decade when it
was no longer a crime to be young. It was all
happening, man.
I kind of got to think about running a sixties special
edition of CVP and got to thinking even deeper –
yeah, that sure would be a good idea. I’ve got plenty
of stuff in the archives and feature ideas lined up, but
I would also
dearly love
to hear from
you – stories,
photos,
anecdotes, in fact,
anything related to the sixties that I could somehow
justify putting in the mag, even, maybe, a shot of you
as a mod or rocker, playing in a band, your wedding,
whatever. I just know it will make an absolutely
fantastic issue.
But hang on, that’s being a bit selfish. What about
the younger dudes who read the mag? So, I’m going
to follow it up with special editions on the seventies
and then the eighties. So, please do get in touch –
e-mail, letter, carrier-pigeon, pack-horse, I really
don’t care, just share your memories and photos.
I did admit to being, maybe, a little older than a
child born in the sixties. I must also confess to being
named after King Edward. Not so very long after.
Until the next time, and all that malarkey.
