American Miniaturist  |  Issue 218
Many miniaturists struggle with the choice of working on one dollhouse/room box at a time or spreading their love over a few projects. There are pros and cons for both. One project at a time gives you hyper focus on the piece as a whole. Some make binders with inspirational photos and plans for the build. They also slowly purchase furnishings while they build. The con for this process is you may loose enthusiasm for the project over time. This generally happens when there is not a strong concept to start with, so choosing a theme you really love is very important for the longevity of your build.
Spreading your love over a few projects at once can be fun because you can create based on your mood. Sometimes you may dream about a theme based on the time of year. When I feel more serious (fall/winter) I gravitate towards my antique builds and when I feel full of energy and sunshine (spring/summer) I tend to work on my scratch builds and new concepts. This is a great way to express yourself through your art. The cons are: you may miss small details or story lines you planned because of the months between builds, or you may feel guilty because you haven’t finished a project.
There is no right answer to this dilemma. Just remember that art is therapy. It’s more about the journey and nourishing your soul. AM is here to inspire along the way so enjoy every fun filled page with no pressure!
