As ever, even smaller foes can wreck you if you grow complacent – so armour up!
Before becoming the critical and commercial darling that made Elden Ring, FromSoftware released one of the most divisive sequels ever: Dark Souls II. Lacking both the intricate world design of the original and its visionary director (who was making Bloodborne) it’s a bloated, messier adventure than its predecessor. “Still dislike it,” says reader Santino Lala. “Worst of the series but still a good game.”
Ah, yes, because for all its faults, it’s still full of brilliant ideas. Like enemies that bash their way out of the mirrors they’re trapped in, and a DLC fight with a boss that’s literally invisible. “It’s still a great game with amazing concepts,” says reader Fergusson Samy. “I just wish it had better execution.”
