Outdoor Swimmer  |  September 21
Welcome to the tenth anniversary issue of Outdoor Swimmer! In 2011 the first issue of H2Open (the previous name of Outdoor Swimmer) was published. Ten years on we are proud to still be the only printed monthly magazine dedicated to outdoor swimming. Simon Griffiths, founder and publisher of Outdoor Swimmer, shares the story of the birth of the magazine and looks forward to the next ten years on page 22.
This issue we are privileged to get a first-hand insight into the training regime of Lewis Pugh ahead of his latest swim highlighting the climate emergency. Dr Stacey McGowan Holloway joined Lewis in Greenland as he prepares for a long-distance stage swim across the mouth of the Ilulissat Icefjord, a ‘protest swim’ ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) to be held in Glasgow this November.
Elsewhere in the magazine, Ella Foote looks at how to tell the health of the river you are swimming in, Luke Chamberlain finds out how to be a responsible swimmer and Olympic bronze medalist Cassie Patten looks at the “carnage and beauty” of feeding stations in elite open water races and gives some tips on feeding and nutrition for your next race or long swim.
We hope you enjoy the issue.
