Christmas is coming and if you — like me — feel totally unprepared for all the festivities (despite your vow to ‘be more organised’ this year) I hope this issue will get you in the mood, and maybe offer a little inspiration.
We’ve got lots of Christmas gift ideas for dog lovers (check out pages 31 and 55) and while our freebies prizes (page 24) don’t all have a Christmas theme, there are plenty of them — 66 in total up for grabs — because, after all, Christmas is a time for giving.
Despite the festive vibe, there is still plenty of practical content in this issue, from learning all about vestibular disease, which is not uncommon in dogs (page 38), to winter care tips to keep your pet warm, dry, and safe (page 26).
And we haven’t forgotten about the pressures we’re all under because of rises in the cost of living either (and that includes the costs of dog ownership). Julie Hill has been talking to trainers, behaviourists, and nutritionists for tips on how you can cut costs without compromising your dog’s health and happiness. Check out the advice on offer on page 10.
For the dogs of Ukraine, winter will only add to the struggle to survive in their war-torn country, as temperatures plummet. Joanne Bednall reports on the efforts to assist the many thousands of pets living on the streets or in shelters, and explains what we can do to help (page 40).
Finally, from everyone on the Your Dog team, we’d like to wish our readers and their dogs, a happy, safe, and peaceful Christmas.
Until next month.

A great read for dog lovers

I’m a new reader of this magazine, and absolutely love it. It’s a real celebration of dogs. Lots of good advice and interesting articles, and some wonderful real-life stories that illustrate just how amazing dogs are. A treat for genuine dog people. Beoordeeld op 24 april 2020
