There’s not long to go now before the arrival of Euro 6, and some truck manufacturers are still putting the final touches to their next generation line-ups ahead of the deadline. The big news this month is the launch of Scania’s top-power 730 bhp engine, which is the last of the Swedish company’s V8s to undergo conversion to meet Euro 6 emissions standards. But while they were tinkering, Scania’s boffins also managed to finalise a new 13-litre, six-cylinder 370 bhp powerplant to prop up its offerings for lighter-weight applications; make a biodiesel engine based on its modular 320 or 360 bhp five-cylinder, nine-litre lump; and add a number of tweaks and upgrades to its Fleet
Management and Driver Support systems. You can find all the details in Industry News, starting page 6. We’ve also been busy this issue. First up, we’re kicking off our search for the Best Truck in
Britain – and we need your help! We’ve argued long and hard over the shortlist, but reckon our six
candidates represent some of the most stunning commercial vehicles in the country. Of course,
the final say goes to you – so please let us know which truck you think should be crowned the
champion by flicking to page 40 and registering your vote by post or via our Facebook page.
Also this issue, we have a revealing chat with outgoing Isuzu Trucks chief Nikki King (page 28),
take Iveco’s Hi-Way Stralis for a drive in Spain to see how the EGR-free Euro 6 version copes in the
Madrid traffic (page 32), and join Plant Speed in Chepstow to take a look at its record-breaking
£1 million Actros SLT Titan and Scheuerle trailer (page 42). We also head to Malaysia to discover
what life is like for truckers battling against increasing cultural tensions (page 50), talk to a road
policing officer to get an altogether different view of life on the highway (page 66), and investigate
the heavy-haul vehicles of specialist builder Rotinoff (page 90). Enjoy!

Good mix, great read

Really enjoy reading this on the iPad. Didn't think it would be as good as the printed magazine, but now I prefer it this way Beoordeeld op 16 juli 2013
