Toy Soldier & Model Figure  |  Issue 206
This edition is highlighted by a very special retrospective section devoted to marking the Battle of Waterloo Bicentennial. The climactic clash of the Napoleonic Wars ended with the French defeated at the hands of Anglo-Dutch and Prussian armies June 18, 1815. Mike Blake covers the history of Dutch-Belgian forces, converts 1:32-scale figures to create a command group and checks out some related items by W. Britain.
French Emperor Napoleon I’s fabled Foot Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard, known as `les Grognards’ (the Grumblers), are profiled in history and miniature by Scott J. Dummitt. In a related article titled “The Old Guard Dies,” British collector Tony Perry details the development of a diorama depicting a last stand made by some of Napoleon’s elite troops as darkness descended at Waterloo. U.S. collector Bob Luyckx has been lucky enough to have visited the site of the battle in present-day Belgium.
Waterloo-related coverage also extends to the “Centerfold,” a couple of Editor, Stuart Hessney’s, monthly reviews of new metal products and elsewhere. We hope readers enjoy this commemorative mix of history and military miniatures. As usual, there’s lots more in store in this edition, so please start turning the pages, enjoy and, as always, happy collecting!
