Toy Soldier & Model Figure Magazine Issue 199 Vorige editie

6 Beoordelingen   •  English   •   Hobbies & Crafts (Scale Modelling)
This edition features a “Great War Centenary” special section to help commemorate the commencement of hostilities in 1914.

Stuart Hessney’s article profiles the physician, artist and writer, WWI Canadian Lt. Col. John McCrae, MD. His war memorial poem “In Flanders Fields” made poppies synonymous with remembrance of the fallen.

Gerhardt C. Muench rounds out the WWI-themed special section with a fascinating article titled “German March on Paris.” He recounts the genesis of a diorama dating back to 2007, when he started collecting pieces produced by King & Country Ltd. In addition, the writer shares his personal connection to WWI through memories shared by his father, Elias Muench, who was a young boy living in the Austro-Hungarian Empire while the war raged.
Elsewhere, Stuart Hessney traces Clive Gande’s journey from collector to dealer and now the maker behind a brand new label: The Model Armoury. His article is part collector’s story/part maker profile as Stuart delves into how the Brit got into our hobby, what he collects and what made him decide
to plunge into the business side. In addition, Stuart's reviews this month include a look at Clive’s debut products: four different versions of WWI British 4.7-inch naval guns with crews.

The U.S.-based Toy Soldier Museum’s James H. Hillestad provides a look at his latest diorama inspired by an annual volunteer firefighters’ town fair in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. Called “The Country Carnival,” the diorama re-creates all the colorful sights, raucous sounds and great fun of a midway in miniature.

“Women at War” is Jack Matthews’ salute to World War II women in uniform. He examines collectibles inspired by their service and heroic sacrifices for their homelands.

As usual, there’s lots more in store in this edition, so please start turning the pages, enjoy and, as always, happy collecting!
