First intermodal train finally leaves Seaway’s terminal at CQ Inland Port, Yamala
Although it was originally planned for September 2022, the first intermodal train departure from CQ Inland Port’s Yamala terminal (25 kilometres east of Emerald in Queensland’s Central Highlands) on Sunday, 19 March was nevertheless a significant event for rail in Queensland given the miniscule market share rail commands in non-mineral export container business in the state. John Hoyle was there to witness the event.

Sydney Station Stories – Clyde
In the second instalment of his Sydney Station Stories series, Chris Walters takes a look at Clyde, a station with quite a significant railway history, but which today gives the strong impression of time having stopped.

After Christmas/New Year observations 2022/2023 in Western Australia
In past years the Christmas/New Year period in Western Australia could be a quiet time for train operations, except of course for the ongoing haulage of minerals to Kwinana, Geraldton, and Bunbury Ports (that run throughout the holiday period). For Phil Melling, a visit from Geraldton to Perth and return changed that observation.

A Sunday on the QR Western Line
After awaking at 2:30am on Sunday 5 March in the Ipswich suburb of Goodna, it was time for Anthony Evans and his friend to decide where to begin their coverage of Queensland Rail’s Western Line operations. They started their day by heading to the western Brisbane suburb of Wacol, to get 9608 Up empty Aurizon coal train.

Kilrie returns to the QPSR
The morning of Saturday, 18 March 2023 saw the official re-launch of 0-4-2T Perry steam locomotive Kilrie at the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway (QPSR), at Swanbank, near Ipswich, Queensland, having been out of service for over 10 years.
