Digital FilmMaker  |  DFM Issue 65
It’s funny how some people seem to have every base covered when it comes to producing their filmmaking project, from organising finances, getting kit lined up and assembling any crew needed if they can’t stretch to hiring in help. However, we never cease to be amazed at just how many filmmaking projects get let down by a lack of thinking in the promotional department. After all, with so many films and documentaries out there vying for attention it’s important to have a plan of action. A big part of that is promotion and filmmakers still don’t seem to be taking this seriously. You need decent promotional images, behind the scenes shots and a carefully worded press release to get taken seriously. Randomly assembled bits and bobs just don’t cut it. And, heading to social media isn’t always the easy answer either – you might get lucky, but more often than not you’ll have to have a plan in place on that front too. All this isn’t as hard as it looks either, but it does require a little bit of time and effort. We’ve got another stack of projects for you this issue, but as you’ll see while you read each feature, in many cases there seems to be an air of ‘could do better’. Ah well, there’s some good stuff here all the same.
