It’s fair to say that diesel power has come in for some criticism of late, and while some of what is being said is true for old diesels, the latest cars are cleaner and greener than ever before, and in many cases produce lower levels of pollutants than petrol cars. Mis-information and poor understanding of the complicated diesel subject has led to over-dramatisation and sometimes panic. But hey, in the case of the nationals and some eco-factions, why let the facts get in the way of a sensationalist story. In this month’s issue, we explain why new diesel is the future and what lengths the car makers are going to, to engineer the fuel to exceed the regulations. We explain the differences between Euro-6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 regulations, NEDC and WLTP emissions testing, and also have a helpful section on AdBlue.

We’ve also been driving the Kia ProCeed and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and tested the Citroën C5 Aircross for the first time on UK roads. Audi’s mighty Q8 faces the Range Rover Sport in this month’s twin test spat, and we drive the Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi with its uprated and more powerful engine and new infotainment system. Kia’s Ceed Sportswagon is put through its paces and we get behind the wheel of Volvo’s XC40 D3 AWD.

Phil Thane explains why diesel power isn’t the only pollutant on this planet, and Vicky Parrott looks at five cars that you can achieve 60mpg with, while shelling out just £600. This month’s used car buyer’s guide is on the Suzuki Vitara 1.6 DDiS and we examine the best way of buying the top selling diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric cars. There are also all your favourites including Doctor Diesel, Marketplace, The Extra Mile, Buying, Maintaining and Selling, and the most up-to-date data section in the business, including all the new WLTP fuel economy figures.

diesel, green cars, electric mag

The UK’s leading magazine for diesel, green cars, electric, hybrids and alternative fuelled vehicles, full of advice on tech, mechanics, future plans. great photos inspiring reviews Beoordeeld op 21 augustus 2022

I like the way it has evolved over the years

I have been buying it in print and online since the early 2000s and I like that it always has focused on the economy end of motoring, or us cheapskates if you like. It has moved to covering hybrids and electric cars which is good, and hasn't forgotten its roots - diesels.

It's a friendly, down to early mag and Doctor Diesel is still the best bit.
