This month we test a car that has been billed as a game changer for the car industry, with the new pure electric Volkswagen ID.3 coming under the scrutiny of our testers. Not only that, but we’ve also driven it side-by-side up against one of its biggest rivals from Korea, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric. Has Volkswagen set new standards in the electric arena, or has it been disgraced by one of its older rivals? You can’t miss this test – it really is essential reading.

We’ve also been driving another brand-new electric car that is set to take the market by storm, the Citroën e-C4. While its petrol and diesel engine predecessor were disappointing, this newcomer is exceptional in a number of areas. Bravo Citroën for doing something a little different. We’ve also tested Jeep’s plug-in hybrid Renegade 4xe, driven the facelifted Peugeot 5008 and been entertained by the silky new 3.0-litre straight six diesel engine in the Range Rover Sport HST.

We’ve got a whole host of new year gadgets for the inspector to review, so that you’ve got something to spend that Christmas money on, that has been burning a hole in your pocket. We welcome two new cars to the long-term test fleet – a SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI and Suzuki Ignis mild hybrid – and in the news section of the magazine, there’s spyshots of the next Nissan Qashqai, first details of Toyota’s Camry hybrid and there’s the first information on the forthcoming MINI Electric John Cooper Works and a futuristic MINI Urbanaut. In the Buying, Selling and Maintaining section of the magazine, this month’s used car buyer’s guide is all about the Jaguar F-Pace.

There are also your favourites like Doctor Diesel, The Extra Mile, Legal i, Buying, Selling and Maintaining, Marketplace, and the most up-to-date vehicle statistics anywhere in the magazine world. We’ve also got five brand new columns called Autojumble, Fuel for Thought, Motorgrump, Retrospective and Roadwatch.

diesel, green cars, electric mag

The UK’s leading magazine for diesel, green cars, electric, hybrids and alternative fuelled vehicles, full of advice on tech, mechanics, future plans. great photos inspiring reviews Beoordeeld op 21 augustus 2022

I like the way it has evolved over the years

I have been buying it in print and online since the early 2000s and I like that it always has focused on the economy end of motoring, or us cheapskates if you like. It has moved to covering hybrids and electric cars which is good, and hasn't forgotten its roots - diesels.

It's a friendly, down to early mag and Doctor Diesel is still the best bit.
