Classic Van & Pick-up Magazine Vol.14 No.8 Last Minute Rescue Vorige editie

THE only means of knowing that anybody
reads this magazine are letters, e-mails and
statistics from the various newsagents and
outlets. It sometimes occurs to me that there is a
bunch of you out there who correspond with CVP
under several different names just to lull me into a
false sense of confidence. I can imagine the scene
in a pub, when one of you says: “Let’s send a few
more letters, that’ll make the old boy think he’s
got an audience.”
Burdened as I am with that cynical approach, it is
always heartening, nay, delightful to learn that there
are actually people who do give CVP a glance now and
again. Thus, it was with some relish that I was informed
one of the team on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2
show takes the mag. The man himself was heard to say
“ … has just put down her copy of Classic Van and Pickup.”
Not a verbatim representation of the conversation,
but it gives you the gist.
Fancy that, eh? Good old Elastic Band and Stick-up
getting a mention on national radio. I guess that me
and Graham have something in common in the sense
that we both don’t know for sure who is listening to
or reading our stuff – the Loft and his studio are both
emporiums from which we broadcast to an unknown
audience. The only differences are that he’s around half
my age, earns (probably) a thousand times as much and
is infinitely more talented. Nevertheless, I know he’ll
appreciate a reciprocal mention in CVP. And if you are
the young lady who reads the mag, please, do, drop us
a line. And finally, I have been dragged kicking, screaming
and slobbering from my cave into the 21st Century.
Yes, CVP has finally gone and gotten itself a Facebook
page. Well, ring my chimes and jar my preserves, ain’t
that something? If you are similarly as high-flying, bung
www.facebook.com/classicvanandpickup into your
address bar. Go on, I know you’re out there (you are,
aren’t you?). Tootle-pip, old beans.
