Welcome to our March issue, which appears just a few days after the London Bass Guitar Show 2013. Let us know who you met and what gear you played, and let’s make a date for next year while we’re at it. In the meantime say hello this month to the great Jason Newsted, who served many years in Metallica before retiring as all that headbanging had left him painfully (and we do mean very painfully) damaged. Back with a new band after a decade of surgery, Newsted tells us what it’s like to make the ultimate comeback. Elsewhere in this issue we take a long look at this year’s NAMM Show, where our intrepid writer Joe Daly strode the halls like a bass-wielding colossus on our behalf, and we sit down for candid chats with rock and funk maestros Rudy Sarzo and Andy Irvine. Of course, what we aim for in every issue of BGM is the ultimate coverage of bass gear and tuition, no matter what your budget, playing style or ability, and we pride ourselves at hitting that target again this month. Check out Jack Stevens’ beginners’ column if you’re new to the bass, head to Dave Marks’s page devoted to shredding like a demon if you’re at an advanced level, and visit our many other techniques columns if you’re somewhere in the middle, like most of us. As for gear, we’ve got a range of amazing basses and FX, from the super-expensive to the sensibly-priced, for any depth of pocket. Enjoy it, and don’t forget to tell us what you’ve been doing on Planet Bass at our Facebook page and Twitter feed. Cheers!

Really interesting

Lots of interesting articles Beoordeeld op 25 april 2022

Bass Player UK

I'm writing from Colombia. I really enjoy the magazine. Thanks guys. Beoordeeld op 20 december 2020

Always a good read

Really entertaining view of guitar Beoordeeld op 11 juli 2019

Preferred the old reader

Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted. Beoordeeld op 24 november 2012
