In this 84-page issue of ‘Aviation News incorporating Classic Aircraft’ magazine we have a major article on the mighty B-52H bomber that remains in service today and is likely to still be flying for decades to come. There is also an in-depth article on the RAF’s newest spyplane – the RC-135 Rivet Joint. The first example recently arrived in the UK and we examine this aircraft and its roles in use with the RAF’s most secret squadron. The three letters LAX are well-known as being the code for Los Angeles International Airport. We look at the latest developments at this major US West Coast hub. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the last airline flying passenger DC-10s and it is about to retire the last example, though the airline is planning a big farewell for the aircraft including a visit to the UK and possibly sightseeing flights. We examine the stop-gap success that was the Avro York airliner, which started life in World War Two. Also hailing from this era is the Dornier 17, one of which was recently recovered from the English Channel. The article describes the development of the aircraft and its different variants. The massive disruption to air travel of the volcanic eruption in Iceland in 2010 has led to research on how to avoid ash. The article looks at the threat to aircraft and the recent breakthrough of a new system which easyJet is keen to use. In the Cold War only two Warsaw Pact air forces, other than that of the USSR, were given nuclear weapons. One of these was the air arm of Bulgaria. In this article the tactics, strategy and training of Bulgaria’ Cold War nuclear strike force are explained. This month’s ‘Room with a View’ hotel, that has excellent opportunities for aircraft photography, is at Toronto’s Lester B Pearson International Airport.

There is the latest civil, military and heritage aircraft news, plus much more.
