SUMMER ROSE CARE
The rose. Our classic garden flower. From the simplicity of wild roses to the billowing effusion of modern shrub roses – there is no garden in the country that cannot be improved by the addition of the right variety. Of course, late July is not the optimum time to be planting roses – although a rose bought from the garden centre or specialist rose nursery in a large pot will usually settle in nicely if you don’t let it dry out. So whether you have a single bush or a dedicated bed, a few simple steps will ensure your roses deliver better blooms – and more of them, says Graham Rice.
