A13 CRUISERS IN FRANCE

This is how the A13 Mk I appeared in a recognition booklet for use by British troops. The 4” Smoke Grenade launchers mounted on the turret side are not fitted.

In the 1930s a new type of tank was developed for the British Army. This would use the suspension system created by American inventor J Walter Christie.

Among other things he worked on battleship turrets, a front-wheel drive car which he raced himself and then a replacement for steampowered tractor units for fire engines. In the field of tanks he was an early pioneer with a design in 1919 which run either on tracks or its wheels alone, an idea which he incorporated into later designs.
