The series on the model locomotives of esteemed locomotive builder, Harry Powell has proved very popular and in this issue the author (Harry’s son, David) describes the model that possibly represented the pinnacle of the Powells’ acclaimed model engineering career, a 7¼ inch gauge LMS ‘Duchess’ that was commissioned by Mr. Jack Salem and is regarded by many as the best example of its kind ever built.
On our cover this time is a most unusual hot air engine that can best be described as ‘undertype’ and one which has a speed control. Built to fascinate an audience, this is a remarkable engine in many respects.
