Living Blues  |  Living Blues #268
Living Blues #268 (September/October) continues our 50th anniversary celebration with a deep dive into the Mississippi Delta blues scene of today. Cover artist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, at age 21, may be the most exciting artist in the blues right now. We profile another 24 Delta blues artists with a broad sweep across styles and instruments. Then we take a fascinating look at the Delta’s current southern soul scene. Jim O’Neal examines the history of the blues in Washington County (Greenville) and points out that the talent there rivaled that of the better-known Clarksdale. We follow with Down in the Delta and Who Was It Sang that Song? from our list master Jim DeKoster. Voices from the Delta: The First Blues I Heard is part two of a feature that shares blues musicians’ first exposure to the blues in their own words, pulled from past LB features. This issue’s Let It Roll: The Essential Blues Sessions focuses on John Lee Hooker’s recording Live at the Café Au Go-Go from August 30, 1966, on BluesWay Records. Interspersed throughout the issue are blues tourism guides for the seven major cities in the Delta, plus over 50 record reviews, the latest Blues News, and the 2020 Living Blues Awards Winners!
