Camping  |  October
I know most people prefer to pitch their tent in the hot summer months, but in many ways this is my favourite time of year for camping. Many of my most memorable trips have been in late summer and early autumn – what they call the “shoulder season” in the
biz.
Campsites are quieter and usually less expensive, temperatures are
cooler and there are fewer bugs to put up with. The autumn colours are
in full-effect providing a memorable backdrop to your camping trip.
Of course, late-season camping can also be risky, as you never know
quite what the weather is going to do, but as long as you are well prepared
you should be fine.
You also need to think a bit differently – rather than seaside trips, why not consider a city break, so you have lots to do if the weather isn’t great?
In this issue we’ve come up with some ideas that will help you make the most of late summer escapes, with lots of tips and advice on where to go, what to take and how to set up. You’ll also be more likely to use electric hook-ups at this time of year, so we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to using electricity and gas on site. Wherever you decide to go, the main thing is that you carry on camping!
