If your mother has one of the most famous voices in the world, you may think twice before embarking on a singing career. In fact, it took Jason Gould, the son of singer and actress Barbra Streisand and actor Elliott Gould, several decades to follow his dream and showcase his talents. “I started late because I was afraid of being judged and compared,” Jason, 57, tells us from his home in Los Angeles. “I thought: ‘Why would I do that to myself?’ But I also had a need to express myself, so part of my own spiritual growth was to be able to walk through the fear and do it anyway.
“I’m not trying to be like my mother, or trying to please anybody else,” he’s quick to add. “I’m an artist and that’s what artists do – they use their feelings, their lives, their ideas, their instincts to create.”
Jason’s latest music venture is Sacred Days, an EP of five tracks he’s co-written that showcase the breadth and range of his voice, as well as musical styles. It is one of a few recordings he’s made since first pursuing music in 2011.
