BAIRSTOW’S BRILLIANCE KEEPS PROTEAS AT BAY
Ottis Gibson praised the contribution of Jonny Bairstow and revealed the England dressing room was “buzzing” after the wicketkeeper’s standout display helped the tourists make a positive start to this third Test against South Africa. The hosts closed on 267-7, largely thanks to Bairstow’s four catches and stunning run-out of Temba Bavuma in what must rank as his finest performance behind the stumps in Tests. There were two wickets each for Ben Stokes and Steven Finn, with Moeen Ali and Stuart Broad also chipping in, as England edged an evenly-contested first day of a Test they know will clinch them the series if they can win it.
