The festive season is undoubtedly the most exciting time for us game Shots. Right the way across the country friends and relatives don tweeds and make the most of opportunities abound. Therefore, to guest edit December/January 2020 issue of Fieldsports – the pheasant and wild bird special – we call upon none other than George Digweed MBE, the 26-time world champion and 18-time European clay shooting champion and arguably one of the greatest game Shots of our generation.

“Throughout my life I’ve had an unbridled passion for country pursuits in whatever form,” says George. “I have been very lucky in that my results in one sport have opened doors in others. Whether you are watching pheasants in the West Country, grouse on a Scottish moor, snipe coming into rice fields in Romania or partridges bursting over rocky outcrops in Spain, our sport is undeniably magical.”

On top of an exclusive interview extracting information about his life and achievements, George shares his tried and tested ‘Method’ for shooting driven birds, advice on how to host a shoot in order to make the most of the land you have available and put on a truly memorable day. Complimenting George’s contributions, the 198-page bumper issue is filled with content for the sporting enthusiast from new and regular world class contributors. Lord James Percy shares his views on rewilding, Toby Burrell explains why fishing in harsh conditions can be well worth the effort, top game shooting instructor Simon Ward offers advice on shooting wild birds and renowned sporting artists Julian Novorol and Owen Williams share their passions and artistic impressions. And that’s not all, Robin Hurt explains the harsh realities of what the UK’s potential trophy import and export ban would have on African wildlife, two outstanding pheasant shoots go under the spotlight, we share a selection of the finest wintry entries to the Leica FSPhotographer of the Year...
