Welcome to the May 2020 edition of Canadian Yachting magazine and to a boating season unlike any other ever. As I write this we are in mid-April and here in Southern Ontario, the weather is improving, the ice is long gone and I am already seeing boats out on the lake, but I was surprised to see them there.

The entire world is supposed to be “self-isolating” and going boating through a marina, is not allowed in Ontario at the moment. Other provinces are taking a similar stance and in Atlantic Canada travel bans have been put in place. At first, there were differences but it is now becoming a clear message to just stay home.

So, we sincerely hope that this issue of Canadian Yachting magazine, which was planned to have useful information for boat owners and cruisers, still provides enjoyment and a “happy place” for our readers as we navigate through these uncharted waters.

In this issue we have a profile of Krates Marina in Keswick, Ontario that is cottage country just 30 minutes from the subway.

Katherine Stone researches eye care and the importance of protecting one of the most useful organs that any of us own – our eyes! The sun will again dance across the water for all of us this summer – we’re just not sure when we can go. But when we do, every boat should carry an anchor. It’s really an important part of the vessel’s safety equipment.

When it comes to actually anchoring out overnight, it’s a blend of “Science, Art and Experience” that Rob MacLeod, The Informed Boater shares with us in his Special Feature story.

All this, plus boat reviews and more, in the May 2020 issue of Canadian Yachting!
