A merry game to while away the January evenings: name the biggest-selling bass player in the world. Paul McCartney or Gene Simmons? Definitely. How about Suzi Quatro? Absolutely! After no fewer than 55 million album sales and the best part of half a century rocking out on stage, Suzi is still beating hell out of that iconic Fender P-Bass, as we found when we popped in to her frankly Downton Abbey-esque manor house in remotest Essex. What we learned blew our minds, and it’ll blow yours too. Elsewhere in this issue we catch up with a trio of Brit bass royalty – Horace Panter of the Specials, John Bentley of Squeeze and Steve Hanley of The Fall – and catch up with the mighty Doug Wimbish too. We also bring you an insider’s guide to the forthcoming London Bass Guitar Show 2015, with words from Billy Sheehan, Divinity Roxx, Lee Rocker and many other awe-inspiring talents. We’ll see you at Olympia on 7 and 8 March – it’s going to be epic.

As always, BGM’s mission is to equip you with the tools and tuition you need to be a better bass player. Check out our reviews section, where we road-test amazing gear from Enfield, Sadowsky, Bill Nash, Phil Jones and Ashdown. The aim here is to cover a range of gear with all budgets in mind, so whether you’re looking for a sub-£300 combo, a £1300 mid-market bass or a handmade instrument costing more than a family car, you’ve come to the right place. The same philosophy applies to our tuition columns, delivered by a team of the world’s best bass players: divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of theory and technique, there’s something here for everyone. Add columns on double bass and effects plus touring and cover band advice and there’s no better source of info for musicians on the low frequencies. Enjoy!

Really interesting

Lots of interesting articles Révision 25 avril 2022

Bass Player UK

I'm writing from Colombia. I really enjoy the magazine. Thanks guys. Révision 20 décembre 2020

Always a good read

Really entertaining view of guitar Révision 11 juillet 2019

Preferred the old reader

Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted. Révision 24 novembre 2012
