ello, and welcome to the April issue of Aeroplane. We’ve had such awful wet and dismal weather here in the UK for so many months that I hope the free 16-page pull-out Air Show 2014 supplement will give us all a boost as to what we have to look forward to in better weather to come!
I was lucky to attend Warbirds Downunder at the Temora Aviation
Museum in Australia late last year, and it was a delight all round. Not
only did I get to enjoy some glorious Australian “summer” weather,
having somehow luckily managed to just get to Heathrow Airport
escaping those terrible winds in the UK at that time (when the whole rail
network appeared to be closed), but I was also offered the most amazing
photo-shoot I have ever experienced. The results have been in evidence
in the past few issues of Aeroplane, and this month the Lockheed
Hudson features on the cover.
I would like to sincerely thank all the readers who have contacted
me offering kind compliments on the pictures that have appeared. The
credit goes to museum founder David Lowy AM who backed the sortie,
Kenny Love and Sqn Ldr Paul Simmons who organised it, and the pilots
and crew who fl ew the aircraft for us – and I’d like to thank them all.
In case any of you wonder just how the pictures were taken, please see
above! Along with Gavin Conroy, Rob Fox and myself shooting stills, the
photo fl ight included Malcolm Clement shooting video footage for the
air show’s offi cial DVD (AU$35 plus postage from www.aviationmuseum.
com.au) and Temora’s resident cameraman Keith Webb. Harnessed in to the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society’s D.H.C. Caribou, this was not
the easiest of assignments. I am seen at far right, sitting on the Caribou’s ramp with Temora’s Hudson flying directly behind us.

I have issues from the 1940's

I have issues of the magazine my father purchased in the 1940's. A great read then and a great read now.
Just a shame the early editions are not still available in digital form

As an American I don't see alot of British a/c in our magazines other than the usual Hurricanes, Spits, and so forth. And I have learned more about the RAF flying more American a/c such as the NA F-86 and the B-29 that you don't read about in American publications. Révision 13 août 2020
