About the Family History Federation
Established in 1974 as the Federation of Family History Societies, the Federation now has more than 150 member societies from places all over the globe. Many of these are location based – for instance a society dedicated to a specific county or region. Others of the societies are centred around a specialist research topic or are one-name studies. Together the members of these societies constitute thousands of family historians worldwide, who work collaboratively to research and share information about the family history for their area or specialist subject. This may take the form of transcription projects, collating libraries of resources, online and in-person monthly meetings, quarterly society journals and family history shows.
