Popular Patchwork Magazine  |  July 2015
We’ve found patchwork perfection for you in our Geometric July issue. The project piecing parade starts with two fabulous contemporary quilts featuring our old favourite, the humble hexagon. Long Hexies by Mandy Munroe uses glorious Gütermann fabrics and an EZ LongHex™ ruler to create a new twist on a traditional design, whilst Rainbow Hexagons by Sarah Sparkes uses a spectrum of striking shades on a white background to create honeycomb heaven. Summer Roses by Angela Huddart combines triangle strip piecing and simple appliqué in soft pastels to create a delicate flower of a quilt, and Kerry Foster’s Octagon Snowballs shapes up in style with contrasting colours and feature fabrics. When the temperature drops on those hazy summer nights, Kate Haxell’s super-cute Hot Monster from Sewlicious Little Things is the perfect accessory to take the chill off. On the other end of the temperature scale, Rosemary Rosenfeld guides us through how to make her refreshing Ice Cream Delight. In Hen House, Abigail Mill gives us a little taster from her book, Appliqué Art, which uses free machine embroidery, layered organza backgrounds and over-dyed printed cotton to create typical English scenes in fabric. And finally for projects this issue, in Bandana Quilt, Jemima Schlee shows us how to make a super simple and effective bed quilt by repurposing, you guessed it, bandanas!
