Drama and Theatre  |  Summer 1 20/21
Rallying cries abound in Drama & Theatre Summer 1, with Matthew Nichols – drama teacher and author of The Drama Teacher’s Survival Guide imploring drama teachers to hold hands across the globe and work together for our subject; and Harriet Clifford talking to teachers championing the BTEC and similar post-16 courses in the face of government de-funding.
There are many sources of inspiration in this issue – from the teachers writing experimental opera with their Year 6, to activity ideas based on the work of Yvonne Brewster, founder of Talawa Theatre, and a resource for teaching students about online piracy through a creative film project. For teachers with students interested in the behind-the-scenes of the theatre world, we look at a project run by Leeds Playhouse to train up young leaders for the arts, at a new academy opening in Birmingham for backstage theatre and screen training, and a new course in ‘digital arts’ launched by Rose Bruford.
The crop of reviews this issue includes an online CPD workshop on teaching anti-racist Shakespeare, immersive experience ‘Project Intimacy’, and an online source for streamed productions, Scenesaver. Plus there are a host of new play texts, performance and workshop listings, and all the latest news.
