Our tips from the top feature has some welcome advice for anyone who knows what it feels like to be dragged down the road by an over-eager pet — it’s all about what to do to stop your dog from pulling on the lead, while we also explore the phenomenon of enclosed, private exercise fields. For some of us, finding somewhere safe and relatively quiet to exercise our dogs is becoming more and more of a challenge, so maybe these could provide an answer. Behaviourist Toni Shelbourne delves a bit deeper.
Many of you will have seen PC Dave Wardell and his retired police dog Finn on Britain’s Got Talent recently. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Dave told the story of how Finn saved his life — and almost lost his own in the process — and the ensuing campaign for a change in the law, meaning stiffer sentences for those who attack a service animal.
Our feature on page 14 this month pays tribute to this heroic canine, and captures the special bond that exists between Finn and Dave.
