This issue began with thoughts of the imminent London Organ Day with its celebration of the bicentenary of Franz Liszt: Peter King and Martin Firth have contributed excellent articles about this revolutionary composer. Thoughts then progressed to an interview with Thomas Trotter as he had recorded the Ladegast instrument in Merseberg Cathedral both before and after its recent restoration.
The new installation in Barony Hall, Glasgow, has been much discussed, as has the new Nicholson organ in Llandaff and we are therefore including articles by Christopher Nickol and Paul Hale about these fabulous new instruments – a write-up of the Llandaff Organ Day also makes an appearance.
The cover shot refers to the article on page 25 by Dr Roy Massey MBE about a ‘much-travelled’ instrument which has been resident in three separate buildings before finding its current abode in St Mary’s Church, Hay-on-Wye.
David Shuker has again contributed one of his unusually interesting articles, this time about the ‘ingenious Mr Casson and his musical daughters’ who created a system to assist blind musicians before the invention of braille.
