Model Engineer  |  No. 215 Vol. 4512
"We start a new series constructing a full size, but small engine by Robert Tidman of Norwich. These little vertical, single cylinder engines provided power for the organ within a traditional fairground ride - the Gallopers or the Cakewalk, perhaps. The article is by ‘amateur’ engineer, David Owen. David’s approach is that of someone who has not worked in engineering all his life so, in that, he may have much in common with many readers. His descriptions are clear and easy to understand.
Chris Gunn continues with the 6 inch scale traction engine and Ashley Best provides further instruction on detailing the street where the trams trundle along. Ashley’s illustrations alone are worth studying for their sheer beauty! Jan Ridders describes setting the timing of the little Otto Engine and Rhys Owen completes his fascinating tour of American narrow gauge railroads.
All this and much more!!"
