Living Blues  |  LB#252
Living Blues #252 (December/January) focuses on the Soul of the Blues by looking at four modern soul singers. Our cover feature is on soul revivalist Lee Fields. Fields has amassed a huge following in the last decade with a string of solid records with his band the Expressions, but Fields’ career dates back to the 1960s. Southern Soul survivor Carl Sims is now one of the top draws in the market. We sit down with Sims on the heals of a recent lifetime achievement award and reminisce about his long career. Perhaps best known as the author of I Can’t Stand the Rain for Ann Peebles, Memphis singer/songwriter Don Bryant is riding high on a late in life resurgent career that finds him suddenly releasing his first soul record in 48 years. Virginia-based southern soul artist Big G has been making a name for himself over the past 20 years as a powerful songwriter and singer. With a string of regional hits Big G is poised to make his move nation wide. In another of our Paramount Records Centennial Celebration series of articles blues scholar Jim O’Neal traces his work uncovering Patton’s real birthdate and journey to uncover the meaning behind Patton’s 1929 recording Tom Rushen Blues. All of this plus Catching Up with Lonnie Shields, LB Talks to John Nemeth, all the latest Blues News, record reviews and the new Living Blues Radio Charts.
