RIP Big Rob
It is with deep regret and sadness that I have to report the sad death of my long time fishing buddy, Rob McGill. Rob and I have fished together for well over 20 years at Yateley, Swan, Frimley, Sandhurst Horseshoe and a few other places and have socialised off the bank as much as on it. At only 59 years of age, Rob leaves his wife Sue, sons Stuart and Simon and four grandchildren behind. He was an all-round nice guy who was loved by all who he came in contact with – a truly lovely bloke, who I shall miss a great deal. RIP, buddy, see you one day, my dear friend.
Last month’s mag caused quite a stir due to one man, The Explorer, with part two of his series “Off the Beaten Track”. I have been inundated with congratulations to our intrepid pioneer. A sample of the many emails I received can be found in the Shockleader section. It seems our forum carpers are now beginning to accept that yes, he did catch them, yes, they are from England, and yes, they did weigh what he said they weighed! But I have still had a few nutters who think they know better. One weirdo called me to say they were definitely Dutch fish, because of the shape of the tails! Another chap claimed to have fished with The Explorer and that the fish were caught from a club water and weighed 30lb! And another said at least two of them were fish caught several years ago out of Broad Oak, and apparently they were nicked and put in the canal. Sorry, wrong on all accounts; he has never fished abroad, does not fish with anyone else, and we all know who took the fish from Broad Oak, and it wasn’t him.
